Bone and Sinus Grafting

Prepare for dental implants

Bone grafting and sinus grafting are surgical procedures commonly performed in dentistry to augment or regenerate bone in the jaw, particularly in preparation for dental implant placement.

Sinus Grafting

Sometimes when a tooth is removed, or has been missing for a long time, there is not sufficient bone in the upper jaw for a dental implant. It can be increased with a relatively straightforward procedure called a Sinus Graft. This is a procedure that will lift the sinus membrane to allow additional bone to be placed. Depending on how much bone was present before treatment a sinus graft can be carried out at the same time as an implant placement procedure.

Bone Grafting

A dental bone graft is a procedure that increases the amount of bone in a part of the jaw where it has been lost or additional bone is required. This procedure is usually carried out before or during having implant treatment.

The following bone grafting materials can be used:

  1. Bone from you
  2. Or sterile material from an animal source (bovine/porcine/equine)
  3. Or sterile material from a synthetic source

For many years now, most of our patients at Confident Dental and Implant Clinic have preferred that we provide their bone grafting procedures with fully synthetic bone material from a sterile source. We achieve predictable and consistent good bone volume gain with the synthetic bone grafting protocol that we use and so this would be our usual preference.

What is bone grafting?

Bone grafting is a procedure performed to augment or regenerate bone in the jaw. It involves placing bone graft material into areas of bone deficiency to increase bone volume and density, creating a stable foundation for dental implants.

Why might I need bone grafting?
You may need bone grafting if you have experienced bone loss in the jaw due to factors such as tooth loss, periodontal disease, trauma, or infection. Bone grafting can augment the existing bone to provide adequate support for dental implants, preserve bone volume following tooth extraction, or repair defects in the jawbone.
