Does Oral Surgery hurt?

Oral surgery is typically performed under local anaesthesia. Sedation options are also available for oral surgery treatments. You may experience some discomfort or swelling after surgery, but your oral surgeon will advise on post operative care to manage this. You can find out more here.

What is the recovery time for oral surgery?

Recovery time varies depending on the type of surgery performed and individual healing abilities. Generally, you can expect some swelling, discomfort, and temporary dietary restrictions immediately after surgery. Most patients can resume normal activities within a few days to a week, but complete healing may take several weeks.

What do I do if there is bleeding?

It is normal for there to be some slight bleeding for the first day or so after your surgery. Sometimes when a small amount of blood is mixed with saliva, it can look worse than it actually is. If there is some bleeding, do not rinse, but place your bite pack, (provided in your post op bag), over the site and apply pressure by biting firmly for at least 15 minutes. If you have used up your bite packs, then use a folded piece of clean cotton material, such as a towel or handkerchief. If the bleeding has not stopped after an hour or two, then contact the clinic.
