Are dentures painful to wear?
It is common to experience some discomfort or soreness initially when wearing dentures as your mouth adjusts to the new appliance. With time and proper adjustments, any discomfort should subside. If you are experiencing any discomfort then contact your dentist for adjustments or modifications.
What types of dentures are available?
Full dentures – for when all teeth are missing.
Partial dentures – used where some teeth are missing and some remain, attaching to existing teeth
Immediate dentures – placed immediately after tooth extraction to provide continuity of appearance and function while the gums heal.
Overdentures – fitted over remaining natural teeth or dental implants for added stability
How do I take care of dentures?
Proper care for your dentures is important for maintaining oral health and prolonging the lifespan of your dentures. We recommend:
- Brushing dentures daily with a soft bristled brush and non abrasive denture cleaners
- Soaking dentures overnight in a denture cleanser solution or water
- Handling dentures with care to avoid dropping or damaging them
- Removing dentures at night to give the gums a chance to rest and to prevent bacterial growth
